experiment (B1)
カタカナ: イクスペリメント
IPA: /ɪkˈsperɪmənt/
Definition
A scientific test done to learn something or prove an idea. 'They conducted an experiment to test whether the drug was effective.' As a verb, 'to experiment with something' means to try new things: 'She experimented with different cooking styles.' Note: in science, you 'conduct', 'run', or 'carry out' an experiment — not 'do an experiment' in formal academic writing, though 'do' is fine in conversation.
意味: 何かを学んだり考えを証明したりするための科学的なテスト。'They conducted an experiment to test the drug.'(薬の効果を確かめる実験を行った)。動詞として'experiment with'は「〜を試す」:'She experimented with cooking styles.'(料理スタイルを試した)。学術的な英語では'conduct/run/carry out an experiment'が正式です。
