traditional

Translation

伝統的な / 従来の / 慣習的な

Meaning

Traditional describes something that follows long-established customs, practices, or beliefs that have been passed down through generations. 'Traditional Japanese cuisine' (伝統的な日本料理), 'a traditional wedding', 'traditional values'. It can be used positively (emphasizing cultural heritage) or critically (implying something is outdated or resistant to change). 'Traditional' is closely linked to its noun 'tradition' — a custom that is regularly practiced and passed down: 'It's a family tradition to eat soba on New Year's Eve.'

Examples
