Definition
A tenant is a person who pays rent to live in a property that belongs to someone else. The property could be an apartment, house, office, or any space. Japanese learners will recognize 'テナント' which is borrowed directly from English, though in Japanese it is mostly used for commercial tenants (shops in a mall). In English, 'tenant' covers both residential (住宅用) and commercial (商業用) contexts equally.
