Meaning

Suspect means to think something is probably true, or that someone may be guilty, without having full proof. It is weaker than know and often carries doubt or caution. The trap is that the noun and adjective are stressed differently from the verb.

• 警察はその男が複数の詐欺に関わっていると疑っています。
  The police suspect the man of several frauds.
• 私はその数字に入力ミスがあるのではないかと思います。
  I suspect there is a typing error in that number.
