surgery

Translation

手術 / 外科手術 / 外科

Meaning

Surgery is the medical treatment of injuries or diseases by cutting into the body to repair or remove something. 'She had surgery on her knee.' The adjective form is 'surgical': 'surgical equipment'. In British English, 'surgery' also refers to a doctor's office or the time when a doctor sees patients: 'morning surgery' or 'the GP's surgery'. Japanese learners in the UK should know that 'I'll call the surgery' means calling the doctor's office, not a hospital operating room.
