求める / 依頼する / 勧誘する

Meaning

Solicit means to ask for, seek, or try to obtain something such as support, donations, business, advice, or opinions. It is more formal than ask for and can sound official, commercial, or legal. Do not confuse it with elicit, which means draw out a response.

Examples

  • その団体は災害支援のため寄付を募りました。
    The organization solicited donations for disaster relief.
  • 委員会は発表前に専門家の意見を求めました。
    The committee solicited expert opinions before the announcement.
