savings (B1)
IPA: /ˈseɪvɪŋz/
Definition
Money that you have saved, especially in a bank. Crucially, 'savings' is almost always PLURAL in English — even when referring to one person's total saved money. 'My savings are in a bank account' (NOT 'My savings is...'). 'I used all my savings to buy the car.' The singular 'saving' has a different meaning: 'a saving of 20%' means you saved 20% of the cost. 'Savings account' is the standard term for a bank account that earns interest on your stored money.
My savings ARE in a bank account.'(「IS」は誤り)。'I used all my savings to buy the car.'(車を買うために全貯金を使った)。
