Meaning

A journalist who gathers information and writes or broadcasts news stories, often going to the location of events. 'Reporter' is slightly more specific than 'journalist': it emphasises the action of going out, observing, and reporting facts. On TV, the person standing in front of a building or event saying 'Reporting live from...' is the 'reporter'. 'Reporter' is also used more broadly for anyone who reports information: 'a weather reporter', 'a sports reporter'.
