recover (B1)
カタカナ: リカヴァー
IPA: /rɪˈkʌvər/
Definition
To recover means to return to a normal state of health, strength, or well-being after an illness, injury, or difficult experience. It is used for physical health ('She recovered from pneumonia'), mental health ('He is slowly recovering from burnout'), and non-health contexts ('The economy recovered after the recession', 'She recovered her stolen bag'). The last meaning — to get something back — is a separate but important usage that Japanese learners sometimes miss.
意味: recoverとは、病気、けが、または困難な経験の後に、健康・体力・幸福感を取り戻すことです。身体的な健康('She recovered from pneumonia')、精神的な健康('He is slowly recovering from burnout')、非医療的な文脈('The economy recovered'、'She recovered her stolen bag')でも使われます。「(物を)取り戻す」という意味も重要で、日本人学習者が見落としがちなポイントです。
