Meaning

Raze means to completely destroy a building, town, forest, or other place, often until little or nothing is left standing. It is much stronger than damage. Do not confuse raze with raise, which means lift or increase.

• 古い工場は取り壊され、跡地に公園が造られました。
  The old factory was razed and replaced by a park.
• 火事で村全体が焼け落ちました。
  The fire razed the entire village.
