先行する / 前に来る / 先に起こる
Meaning
Precede means to come before something in time, order, or position. 'A short introduction precedes each chapter.' (comes before it) 'The meeting was preceded by lunch.' (lunch happened first) Do not confuse precede with proceed. Proceed means continue or move forward.
Examples
- 導入部は本文の前に来ます。
The introduction precedes the main text. - 大きな変化の前には小さな兆候があることが多い。
Small signs often precede major changes.
