Meaning

Pray means to speak to God or a god, or to deeply hope that something will happen. It sounds exactly like prey, but prey means a victim or something hunted.

Examples

• 家族は彼の回復を祈りました。
  His family prayed for his recovery.
• 私は明日、雨が降らないことを心から願っています。
  I pray it does not rain tomorrow.
