Definition
A platform is the raised area alongside railway or subway tracks where passengers wait to board and exit trains. In English-speaking countries, station announcements say 'The train for London departs from platform 3.' Note that in Japan, the train station platform is commonly called ホーム (from the English word 'home'), while in English the word is always 'platform'.
