persist (B2)
IPA: /pərˈsɪst/
Definition
To persist means to continue doing something despite difficulties, opposition, or failure. It can be positive (determination) or negative (stubbornness): 'She persisted with her studies despite failing twice.' / 'He persisted in asking, even after she said no.' Two main structures: 'persist with' (continue a task) or 'persist in' (continue a behavior, often negative). Note: 'persistent' (adjective) can mean both positively determined AND annoyingly stubborn — context decides which.
She persisted with her studies despite failing twice.'(2回失敗しても勉強を続けた。)/'He persisted in asking, even after she said no.'(彼女が断った後も聞き続けた。)
