On the other hand introduces a contrasting point — a different perspective or the opposite side of an argument.
'Working from home saves commuting time. On the other hand, it can be isolating.' (a contrasting point)
It is often paired with 'on the one hand... on the other hand' to present two sides:
'On the one hand, it's cheaper. On the other hand, it's less reliable.'
IMPORTANT: You cannot use 'on the other hand' alone without some established first point (either stated, or clearly implied). There is always a 'one hand' being contrasted.
