CEFR A2
neighbor
Translation
隣人 / となりの人 / 近所の人 / お隣さん
Meaning
A neighbor is a person who lives near you, usually next door or on the same street. In English, the word is also used more broadly to mean someone sitting near you, or even a country that shares a border. Japanese learners should note that 'neighbor' in English does not carry the same social obligation as '近所付き合い' — the relationship can be anything from close friends to complete strangers who simply happen to share a wall.
Examples
- 私の隣人は毎朝早く起きます。
My neighbor wakes up early every morning. - 隣人にクッキーを焼いてあげました。
I baked cookies for my neighbor.
