CEFR A2
landlord
Translation
大家 / 家主 / 地主 / オーナー
Meaning
A landlord is a person who owns a property and rents it out to others. The person who pays the rent is the tenant; the person who collects it is the landlord. For a female owner, you can say 'landlady', though 'landlord' is now widely used for any gender. Japanese learners should note that 'landlord' does not always mean a large corporation — a single retired person with one spare apartment is also called a landlord.
Examples
- 大家さんに家賃を払うのが遅れた。
I was late paying rent to my landlord. - 大家が水道の修理をしてくれた。
