Meaning

This phrase describes the ability to understand the unspoken social cues, mood, or atmosphere of a situation and act appropriately. It's about being perceptive and considerate of others' feelings or the group's dynamics, even when things aren't explicitly stated. Someone who 'reads the room' well knows when to speak, when to be silent, what topics are appropriate, and how to behave to maintain harmony.
