Meaning

An ingenue is a young woman, especially a character in a play or film, who seems innocent, inexperienced, and sincere. It is a literary and somewhat old-fashioned word. Do not confuse it with ingenious, which means clever, or ingenuous, which means innocent or naive as an adjective.
