Meaning

An implication is an unstated meaning suggested by words, actions, or facts. It is what something hints at, not what it directly says. The trap is confusing implication with inference: implication is the hint; inference is the conclusion drawn from it.

Examples

  • 彼の発言には、計画が失敗したという含意がありました。
    His comment carried the implication that the plan had failed.
  • 彼女はその暗示にすぐ気づきました。
    She immediately understood the implication.
