重い / ヘビー / 激しい
Meaning
Having a lot of weight; difficult to lift. 'This suitcase is too heavy to carry.' But 'heavy' has many other important meanings in English: heavy rain (intense), heavy traffic (a lot), heavy smoker (someone who smokes a lot), heavy heart (sad), heavy workload (a lot of work), heavy metal (a music genre). Japanese 'omoi' (重い) covers physical weight and emotional heaviness, but English 'heavy' extends further into intensity and quantity.

- その荷物は重すぎて一人では持てない。
That luggage is too heavy to carry alone. - 今日は雨が激しく降っている。
It is raining heavily today.
