Meaning

Grow up has three uses: 1. PHYSICAL: to become an adult over time — 'She grew up in Tokyo.' 2. EMOTIONAL/MENTAL: to become more mature — 'He really grew up after he became a father.' 3. AS AN EXCLAMATION: 'Grow up!' = Stop being childish! (impatient, informal).

Examples

  • 彼は大阪で育ちました。
    He grew up in Osaka.
  • 大人になってから、彼女は母親の苦労が分かった。
    After growing up, she understood how hard her mother worked.
