goal (A1)
IPA: /ɡoʊl/
Definition
An aim or desired result that you work towards. 'My goal is to pass the TOEIC exam.' 'Goal' also refers to the physical structure in sports (the net or posts that players aim at) and the act of scoring in that structure ('She scored a goal'). The Japanese 'gooru' (ゴール) is used in sports but also in business and personal planning. 'Goal' and 'aim' are close synonyms — 'goal' is slightly more specific and concrete.
My goal is to pass the TOEIC exam.'(私の目標はTOEIC試験に合格することだ)。'
