Meaning
Factitious means artificially produced rather than natural or genuine. It is formal and often appears in medical or technical writing, especially for symptoms or conditions that are deliberately produced. Do not confuse it with fictitious or fictional.
Examples
- 医師はその発熱が作為的なものではないか慎重に調べました。
The doctor carefully investigated whether the fever was factitious. - その研究者は自然な需要と作為的な需要を区別しました。
