Meaning

An epithet is a word or phrase used to describe someone or something, often as a label. It can be literary and neutral, but in modern news it often means an abusive or insulting name. Do not confuse it with epitaph, a grave inscription.

    The comment included an offensive epithet.
  • 古典文学では、英雄に定型的な形容語句がよく使われます。
