エフェクト (A2)
English: Effect
カタカナ: エフェクト
IPA: /ɪˈfɛkt/
Definition
Effect (noun) means the result or outcome of an action — what happens BECAUSE of something else.
'The medicine had an immediate effect.' (the result was immediate)
'What effect will this decision have?' (what will be the result?)
'Side effects of the drug include headache.' (results that are not the main purpose)
KEY RULE — the affect/effect distinction:
Effect = NOUN (the result)
Affect = VERB (the action of influencing)
A quick test: if you can say 'the X' or 'an X', it's effect (noun). 'The effect was huge.' (noun). 'It affected me.' (verb).
意味: effect(名詞)は「効果・影響・結果」という意味です。何かの結果として起こることを表します。
The medicine had an immediate effect.(薬はすぐに効果が現れた)
What effect will this decision have?(この決定はどんな影響を持つだろう?)
Side effects of the drug include headache.(薬の副作用には頭痛が含まれる)
重要ルール — affect/effectの区別:
effect = 名詞(結果)
affect = 動詞(影響を与える行為)
判別法:「the X」「an X」と言える場合はeffect(名詞)。The effect was huge.(影響は大きかった:名詞)。It affected me.(私に影響した:動詞)。
