Meaning

In finance, a sum of money paid regularly to shareholders from a company's profits. 'The company paid a quarterly dividend of 50 yen per share.' If you own stock in a profitable company, you may receive dividends as income. In mathematics, 'dividend' means the number being divided: in '10 divided by 2', the number 10 is the dividend. The financial meaning is more commonly tested in IELTS and TOEIC contexts.
