Meaning

Disabuse means to free someone from a false belief, illusion, or mistaken idea. The usual pattern is disabuse someone of something, not disabuse an idea.

Examples

  • 先生は、英語は暗記だけで足りるという彼の思い込みを正しました。
    The teacher disabused him of the idea that memorization alone was enough.
  • その失敗で、計画が簡単だという幻想は消えました。
    The failure disabused us of the illusion that the plan would be easy.
