延期する / 先送りする / 判断を委ねる

Meaning

Defer has two important meanings. First, it can mean postpone: defer payment, defer a decision. Second, defer to someone means accept another person's judgment because you respect their authority or expertise. Do not confuse defer with differ, which means be different or disagree.

Examples

  • 委員会は決定を来月まで延期しました。
    The committee deferred the decision until next month.
  • 法的な点については専門家の判断に従います。
    I defer to the expert on legal matters.
