Definition
Confusing describes something that CAUSES confusion — a thing, situation, or explanation that is hard to understand.
'The instructions are confusing.' (the instructions cause confusion)
'This is a confusing situation.' (it makes people feel confused)
'His explanation was confusing.' (it made me feel lost)
CRITICAL — the -ed/-ing rule:
Confusing (-ing) = the thing CAUSES the feeling
Confused (-ed) = the PERSON FEELS the emotion
'The map is confusing.' (the map causes confusion)
'I am confused.' (I feel confused)
Do not say 'I am confusing' unless you mean YOU make others feel confused.
