Meaning

Complicit describes a person or organization that knowingly helps, permits, or shares responsibility for wrongdoing. It does not just mean present at the scene. The usual pattern is complicit in a crime, cover-up, abuse, or deception.

Examples

  • 管理職は不正を知っていながら止めず、隠蔽に加担していました。
    The managers were complicit in the cover-up because they knew and did nothing.
  • その会社は取引先の労働搾取に加担していると非難されました。
    The company was accused of being complicit in its supplier's labor abuses.
