Meaning
A team sport where two teams of five players try to throw a ball through a raised hoop to score points. 'He plays basketball at his school.' In everyday Japanese speech, the sport is often shortened to 'basuke' (バスケ), similar to how Americans say 'hoops' informally. In English, the short form 'hoops' or 'ball' is used colloquially: 'Let's shoot some hoops.'
