陳腐な / 平凡でつまらない / ありきたりな
Meaning
Banal means boring because something is too ordinary, predictable, or overused. It is a critical word for comments, slogans, plots, advice, and design. Do not confuse it with plain, which can be neutral or positive.
Examples
- その映画は映像は美しいが、会話は陳腐だった。
The film looked beautiful, but the dialogue was banal. - 彼の助言は親切だったが、かなりありきたりだった。
His advice was kind but rather banal.
