amount (A2)
カタカナ: アマウント
IPA: /əˈmaʊnt/
Definition
A quantity of something. 'A large amount of water.' Important rule: use 'amount of' with UNCOUNTABLE nouns (water, time, money, stress). Use 'number of' with COUNTABLE nouns (people, books, mistakes). Japanese 量 covers both — English separates them.
意味: 何かの量のことです。'A large amount of water.'(大量の水)。重要なルール:'amount of'は不可算名詞(water、time、money、stressなど)と使います。可算名詞(people、books、mistakesなど)には'number of'を使います。日本語の「量」は両方をカバーしますが、英語では区別します。
