Definition
Alleviate means to make pain, suffering, hardship, or a problem less severe. It does not necessarily remove the cause completely. The learner trap is using alleviate for doubts or suspicions when allay is more precise.
意味: alleviate は「痛み・苦しみ・困難・問題の程度を軽くする、緩和する」という意味です。原因を完全に取り除くとは限りません。学習者が間違えやすいのは、疑念や不安を鎮める場面で alleviate を使うことです。その場合は allay のほうが正確なことが多いです。
