無罪にする / 無罪判決を下す / 嫌疑を晴らす

Meaning

Acquit means to decide officially that someone is not guilty of a crime. The usual pattern is acquit someone of a charge or crime. It is not the same as release, which only means letting someone go.

Examples

  • 陪審は彼を詐欺の容疑について無罪としました。
    The jury acquitted him of fraud.
  • 新しい証拠が出た後、被告人は無罪になりました。
    The defendant was acquitted after new evidence appeared.
