自己否定 / 自己犠牲 / 欲望を断つこと

Meaning

Abnegation is self-denial: giving up personal comfort, desire, or advantage, often for duty, discipline, faith, or another person. It is not the ordinary noun for saying no to a request.

Examples

  • その小説は、家族のための自己犠牲を美徳として描いています。
    The novel presents abnegation for one's family as a virtue.
  • 彼の規律は、ときに過度な自己否定に見えました。
    His discipline sometimes looked like excessive abnegation.
