Meaning

A being with some divine or supernatural powers, but not considered a full deity. Often, semideities are the offspring of gods and mortals, or they may be heroes who have been elevated to a divine status after their death.

Examples

  • The myth of Hercules describes him as a semideity, the son of Zeus and a mortal woman.
  • In some cultures, ancestors are revered as semideities, believed to possess spiritual powers that can influence the living.
