Meaning

A group of rare disorders that are triggered by an altered immune response to a cancerous tumor, or by substances produced by the tumor itself, affecting tissues and organs distant from the primary cancer site.

Examples

  • The patient's neurological symptoms were eventually diagnosed as a form of paraneoplasia, linked to an underlying lung tumor.
  • Paraneoplasia can manifest in various ways, including endocrine, dermatological, and hematological abnormalities.
