kwagga

Meaning

A now-extinct subspecies of the plains zebra that was once found in large numbers across the Karoo and southern Free State of South Africa.

Examples

• The last known kwagga died in the Amsterdam Zoo in 1883.
• Historical accounts describe the kwagga as having stripes only on the front half of its body.
