Definition
A method of attachment or support, often used in rock climbing or other outdoor activities, where a rope or other device is used to hang by or suspend an object or person.
Examples
The rescue team used a hang-by to lower the injured hiker down the mountain.
The hang-by on the rope was secure, so I felt safe as I began my descent.
