Meaning
A small area of inflammation in tissue, typically caused by an immune response to infection or a foreign body, where macrophages and other immune cells cluster together to contain the perceived threat.
Examples
- The biopsy revealed a granuloma, indicating the body was trying to isolate the bacterial infection.
- Chronic inflammation can sometimes lead to the formation of a granuloma, even in the absence of active infection.
