Meaning

A large, fan-shaped complex of ligaments located on the medial (inner) side of the ankle that stabilizes the joint and prevents excessive outward movement of the foot.

Examples

  • Severe eversion injuries often result in a tear of the deltoid ligament.
  • The surgeon carefully inspected the deltoid ligament to ensure it remained intact after the fracture.
