A person who sees or notices something without being actively involved or having a particular interest or expertise in it.

Examples

  • To the casual observer, the complex chess moves might seem random, but a grandmaster sees the strategy.
  • A casual observer might not notice the subtle changes in the painting, but an art critic would immediately spot them.
