Meaning

A person who is extremely nervous, anxious, or emotionally unstable, often to the point of being unable to function normally. This term is often used to describe someone who is on the verge of a mental breakdown or is struggling to cope with their emotions.

Examples

The pressure of the upcoming exam had turned her into a basketcase, and she couldn't focus on anything else.
After the breakup, he was a basketcase and needed time to recover and regain his confidence.
