Meaning

A floating mechanism inside a water tank that automatically regulates the water level by opening or closing a valve.

Examples

• The plumber replaced the faulty ballcock to stop the constant hissing sound from the toilet tank.
• If the ballcock is set too high, the tank will continuously overflow into the overflow pipe.
