An abnormally high concentration of nitrogen-containing compounds, such as urea and creatinine, in the blood.

Examples

  • Severe dehydration can lead to prerenal azotemia if the blood flow to the kidneys is significantly reduced.
  • The patient's rising creatinine levels confirmed a diagnosis of postrenal azotemia caused by a urinary obstruction.
