Tear or pull away a body part or structure from its normal position, often as a result of trauma or surgery.

Examples

  • The accident caused the patient to avulse a tendon from the shoulder joint.
  • During the operation, the doctor needed to avulse the nerve tissue to prevent further inflammation.
