A chemical additive used to lower the freezing point of a liquid, typically in internal combustion engines.

Examples

  • Modern antifreeze also contains corrosion inhibitors to protect the radiator from rust.
  • If you use only water in your cooling system during winter, the engine block may crack when the liquid turns to ice, so you must add antifreeze.
