Meaning

Resembling an eel in form; having a long, slender body with a small gill opening and a pointed tail. This body shape is typical of eels and some other fish, and is often associated with a bottom-dwelling or burrowing lifestyle.

Examples

  • The anguilliform fish swam through the coral reef, its slender body weaving in and out of the sea fans.
  • The anguilliform shape of the eel allows it to fit into narrow crevices and catch prey that other fish cannot.
